Social Emotional Learning
Cheremoya Elementary is committed to supporting both social emotional development and academic learning.
The Early Development Instrument (EDI) is used with Kindergarteners to provide important data on academic and social emotional development.
Resource supports include an instructional coach and psychiatric social worker.
MindUP is the signature program of The Goldie Hawn Foundation, a not-for-profit organization created in response to the global epidemic of childhood aggression, anxiety, depression and suicide.
Based firmly in neuroscience, MindUP gives children the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience and compassion.
The MindUP program has been shown to increase pro-social actions, decrease aggressive behaviors, and improve academic achievement especially in math and language arts.
" If you think that someone can use a friend be one".

Cheremoya staff is part of the Common Ground Community of Practice.
The five schools that make up the partnership have a goal of expanding and integrating SEL and culturally responsive practices that facilitate the inclusion of typically marginalized students in the school community.
The implementation of student-centered SEL practices results in a school-wide culture of safety and inclusion for all students.
